As Christmas nears, I always create a list of gifts to make family and friends. Yes, I make almost everything! Blankets, hats, scarves, picture frames, paintings, candies, and cookies...you name it. I love delving into my creative side and seeing what pops out, for better or for worse. With a new third baby and less time than ever, those bigger crafting projects are on hold, but watch my RECIPES and REAL LIFE HYGGE sections for the latest holiday cookies I will be sending everyone this year! I may also be sneaking in a few store-bought gifts too. Here are some of my favorite hygge gift ideas.
I have a few hand-knitted blankets, and I will never get rid of them, even as they wear out. There is so much value in the handmade that I can’t seem to part with. But if you are running short on time, this blanket sold by Target would be a cozy addition to any home.
Give someone the gift of comfort with warm wool socks. Growing up, my Danish grandmother always sent us care packages with handmade knit socks. They make your feet feel soooooo pampered. But honestly, these Barnes and Noble-sold socks come pretty close to the real thing!
All part of the hygge decor look, fairy lights give a warm glow that will keep home looking cozy long after the holidays have passed. Fairy lights look amazing in Mason Jars, over the fireplace mantle, or along book cases, and because they are battery powered, there is no need to worry about hiding any wiring!
Ah, grandma's old cookie recipe. Christmas is the perfect time to bring back good memories of childhood and to create your own versions of old recipes. Try out Brunkager (Denmarks 'brown cookies') for a twist on the old gingerbread cookie!
Homemade decor always makes a home a cozier, and a chunky yarn and a little time can certainly go a long way in the world of hygge. But if you want something quick, it doesn't get much cuter than these fur-lined knit pillows available at Target. Sold!
Books related to cozy living have been out for some time and make great stocking stuffers! The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living by Meik Wiking and How to Hygge by Signe Johansen are very popular and make hyggeing up your life easy.
So hygge coffee cups are a thing! They come with hygge quotes, pronunciations, and pictures. I love the whole personalized cup idea and usually have family and pet pictures put on cups through my local pharmacy.
My grandmother's care packages also contained sweaters. For everyone. Every year. And they all matched. But being able to wrap yourself in a warm, soft sweater made just for you was something special. If you're not a knitter or crocheter, any warm, over-sized sweater will do the trick.
Hygge is all about comfort, and a good reading chair is a necessity in a hygge home. Sit by the fire with a cozy book and coffee in hand and let your worries melt away. Wayfair has an amazing selection of comfy chairs!<
