Make this easy and cute crocheted butterfly, perfect for beginners and guaranteed to give extra flair to your favorite blanket, scarf, or hat! I will give you step-by-step instructions to make butterflies of your own. These crocheted butterflies look like they came from a magazine but are simple enough for even a novice crocheter.
You only need a few items to get started...a medium-sized yarn (I use Red Heart brand) and a 5 mm crocheting hook. I prefer to make butterflies in a variety of colors; if you do too, make sure to have a few yarn colors available to use.
Begin by creating a slip knot, followed by a dime-sized loop. Stitch through the loop. This stitch that you created in the loop will become the base for the first wing. In this video, I begin with the lower wings and end with the top. The bottom wings each have 7 triple crochet stitches, while the top have 5 double crochet stitches. Once the basic butterfly has been made, I will teach you how to crochet the abdomen and antennas of the butterfly and create colorful spots that will make your butterfly unique and beautiful. Lastly, I will show you how to liven up a blanket, scarf, or hat by attaching the butterflies. Hope you enjoy!
