I love the look of ribbed knitting. It looks so complicated, but if you know basic knitting stitches, is the easiest thing ever! I wear this hat all the time...it is truly my favorite and oh so warm!
Difficulty Level: Medium
Project Time: 2 hours
You only need a few items to get started. Choose your favorite medium chunky yarn (pick your favorite color) and large knitting needles (8-9 mm). You also need a crocheting hook (8-9 mm) or yarn needle to stitch the project up at the end.
Cast on 40.
Knit 4, purl 4, knit 4, purl 4 all the way down the row, and repeat for 30 rows total.
Taper down each column. For each column, stitch 2 normally and combine the last 2 stitches.
Knit 3, purl 3 all the way down the next row.
Taper down each column again. For each column, stitch 1 normally and combine the last 2 stitches.
Knit 2, purl 2 all the way down the next row.
Taper down each column again. For each column, combine the two stitches in each column as you knit and purl.
You should end up with only 10 stitches at the top. Using a crocheting hook or yarn needle, close up the seams to create a hat.
